Why British holidays are great! Norfolk YAP

1.0 Introduction

Good evening all, I hope you are doing well. It's been a while since I wrote the last YAP but rest assured I am still here and I am doing my best to try and keep doing these blogs since I do really enjoy writing them. So as you will tell from the title I have recently been on a holiday in the UK and to be quite honest it was a really enjoyable and stress free holiday, why is that you may ask? Let me tell you about my trip to Norfolk.....

1.1 Where the story begins...

Now I have not been on a British holiday since I went to Cornwall in 2019 and to be honest although it was a great holiday, I really wanted to do some traveling abroad. Which if you have seen some of the other blogs I did this year, one thing that the 4 trips abroad had in common is that they were all quite stressful at times. With the airports and the Covid passes then the whole traveling while your there and what not, it is all quite overwhelming. So when I got invited by my girlfriend to join her and her dads holiday to Norfolk I was glad that I would not have to go through the stress of traveling. As the date came for the holiday we hopped in the car and drove straight to Norfolk.

2.0 Day 1: Crustaceans in Cromer

The first stop for the first day in Norfolk was Cromer where me, Laura and her Dad decided to have a quality Morrisons brekkie before we embarked on what would be a mission to catch some crabs. That's right we went to catch some crabs down at the pier, it was quite busy at the time and there was a competition on as well. Whoever catches the most Crabs wins the ultimate prize. Well the gloves were off and the nets were in, with the bait and some rocks we lowered the nets into water and waited... and waited.... and pulled the nets up... and put them back in... and waited... then pulled them up to put more bait in and waited. But 1 hour later a miracle happened, we caught one crab, emotions were high and the clock was running down, the girl next to us was on her 8th crab and Mr Krabs (our crab) was looking lonely. Within 2 hours of struggle and hardship we had caught not 5 not 10 but 1 Crab. Although we did not win the competition which by the way was just a rubbish certificate we had a good laugh at our own misfortune and finished it off with an Ice Cream.

2.1 The dreaded 2p machines

I mean who doesn't like gambling money away if it's only 2ps, you could spend £100s worth of them and not even blink because there so insignificant. I think everyone loves a 2p machine, they may be rigged but dammit if I see a £5 note in there I will spend a tenner to not get it out. While we were in Norfolk during down times when we did not have much on we went to some of the arcades, and although they have got quite thrifty with some of the machines they are a good way to waste some time (and money). We spent ages trying to get a Heinz baked bean puzzle and failed, it was a truly traumatising experience but at the same time it was a laugh.

2.2 Day 2: Great Yarmouth, Pleasure beach and Queen

Day 2 was spent in Great Yarmouth which is a coastal town in Norfolk, if you have not been to Yarmouth then you will find it is pretty much a nicer and cleaner version of Blackpool with good entertainment and plenty to do. With Laura and her dads great knowledge of the town we got free parking by the Grosvenor's Casino. One thing I will say about Great Yarmouth is that the beach is amazing, the sand looked great and the sea looked even better. After some brunch, more Ice cream and killing time we had then booked to go to the Pleasure Beach that they have there. Now I have not been to any of the Pleasure Beaches but I must say it was a great day out, some of the rides they had there were great especially the Rollercoaster which is the oldest in the UK and the log flume. For £15 per person you got your moneys worth and 3 hours at the resort, so you had time to go on most of the rides. After feeling very wet and thrilled from the rides (not in a sexual way) we left Yarmouth and went back to the holiday park. Once we had some grub we then finished the night and went out to see a tribute queen band which were not the worst I've heard, to be fair they put in a decent performance.

2.3 Day 3: Gorleston On sea

Day 3 was spent in Gorleston on sea where we started the day with a game of Bowls, I personally was not sure if I would find Bowles very fun. But it turns out it is actually really good and pretty fun when you really get going. We all turned into Semi pros within an hour of playing and kept going for a while, until it was time for another Ice Cream. As we finished our Ice cream we found a bench and people watched for about an hour, it's funny how you plant scenarios of how you think people are interacting just by watching what there doing. There was one young lad with his grandparents who ran 6 laps of a small pond on the front and it was hilarious watching him go. In some ways it makes you look back times when you were a kid, like I saw a lad throwing a tantrum when he had to come out of the splash zone and I was thinking that would have been me. While we were back at the park we did end up spending all of the 2ps that Laura and her dad had and also had a few games of pool.

2.4 Mini Golf Galore

Over the course of the 4 days that we stayed we did 3 Mini golf courses, we did 2 in Great Yarmouth and then 1 in Hemsby. It's practically one thing you will never run short of in Norfolk and it's a lot of fun. The first one we did was Castaway mini golf in Yarmouth which was 18 holes, it was a good course, plenty of ups and downs, it ended up being really close but it was a draw in the end. Dino Golf was the second course we played on which was 9 holes, yet again it was a close game, I had an absolute nightmare on one of my holes and blew the win. That resulted in Jess taking the W on that one. Then the grand finale which was Pirates Cove, another 18 hole course with everything on the line. There were great moments like Laura's hole in 1 and great defeats like my final putts going round the hole. In the end Laura won, Jess followed closely in second and I fell into 3rd. One thing that I will admit even though I lost it was really fun and again a great way to kill some time while your away.

3.0 Day 4: The trip draws to a close

On day 4 we spent our last hours in Yarmouth trying to soak up some sun before the rain came, we spent most of the day relaxing on the front and having one final Ice cream before we departed.

In a nutshell Norfolk was a great place to visit and it was the first holiday that I had been on this year where I had no stresses about anything. The Chalet that we stayed in was nice and clean with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen area and a nice bathroom and the places we visited were filled with thing to do. Which is the reason I am happy to say that this holiday gets a vibe rating of 9, entertainment was good, activities were fun and enjoyable, food was great and above all we had Ice cream everyday. Even the prices were reasonable at most places, so I would definitely recommend if you have not been that you should definitely go.
