5 star trip to Liverpool YAP

Updated: Mar 28, 2022

1.0 Introduction

It is the 6th YAP of the series and week by week we are continuously trying to improve the content that we release, today we feel like its time to go to the northwest of England where we will be traveling to Liverpool, famous for the Beatles, Liverpool and Everton football club and of course the Scousers. We will look into places of interest and give further recommendations of where we think are the best places to go.

2.0 The Beatles

Let's just say for a second you are a Beatles fan and you want to find out some history about them not sitting at home and watching in on the Tele. Then you won't need to worry because this city has all the history you could find following the famous 4, with The Beatles museum on Albert Docks and the famous Mathew street that shows a Statue of John Lennon and bars like the Cavern Club. Or maybe you are like me and you are not so much of a Beatles fan, although this may not appeal to you, the history of these places is something to admire. With the detail and dedication that goes into these exhibitions, it truly makes you wonder how much people loved this band. Getting to the museum is not too tricky, just follow directions towards the Docks and it is next to the Premier Inn, tickets are £17 including optional audio.

3.0 Hit the shops

Shopping in Liverpool for me is always difficult because the shops are all over the place, it's not like there's just one big shopping centre with everything inside, there are about 4 shopping centres. This can be quite confusing for some people but if anything it gives you the chance to make a day out of it, it also gives you the chance to do more exploring with the shops ranging from Lime street station to Albert Docks. If you are traveling via train then it may make sense to start around that area but I would make the case of starting from the docks and making your way back up. Depending on what you are after though will also depend on where you fancy going, if your perhaps after some memorabilia or souvenirs then you will want to head dock wards or towards Mathew Street as there are some Beatles shops that way. If you are after clothes perhaps of the designer variety or the mainstream shops then you will want to go to the Liverpool One complex. In and around that area you will find most of the mainstream shops like Super Dry, Hollister and Zara. But say you are an elite person and you don't care for this garbage designer stuff and you want some real shops, then look no further than St Johns shopping centre with shops like: Home Bargains, Wilko, Pound bakery. I'm joking of course there are plenty of great shops there too with a food court as well.

4.0 Drinks and activities

Realistically you can't really go wrong in Liverpool when it comes to drinking in Liverpool, there are plenty of bars, pubs and clubs available. The one concern would be prices, having been Liverpool I can say that depending on where you go it isn't cheap. Most mainstream bars will be the same price as usual so for example, when I went, we went to Slug and Lettuce because they offer 2 for 1 on Cocktails and the price doesn't really change, however nights out can become pretty pricey. If you are a student you may want to capitalise on going on student night. Looking at some of the clubs in Liverpool you can tell which ones gather the most popularity, with clubs like Flares and Pop world becoming more popular for people who are into the late 20th century vibe, we talked about Flares in the Newcastle YAP. There are also more mainstream clubs that play more modern music like Level and Fusion (which has free student entry).

If you decide you do not fancy a night out, perhaps you've got a train to catch or you've got to be up early in the morning, then don't threat there are still plenty of fun activities for you to take part in. A prime example of an activity that may not get you throwing up in the toilet but will give you a barrel of laughs would be Junkyard Golf. Junkyard golf is a mini golf course which allows you to drink and play, they have there own bar inside and although drinks are pricey it won't cost you a lot to get on the course. This is one of the activities that we would definitely recommend trying, but other activities could include: escape rooms, cocktail masterclasses, the Cinema or bowling.

5.0 YAPVibe recommendation of the week!!

There are still plenty more activities that you could take part in, which is why we want you to make the most of your visit, which is why we want to give you one of our top recommendations for this weeks YAP. We have not really touched on food in a while so here we go, now I don't know about everyone else but I love food and if you feel the same then you can not go wrong in Liverpool. There is a variety of different cuisines for every person, my personal favourite and the prime recommendation for this YAP would be Gusto's Italian restaurant on Albert Docks. It is not just the food that is amazing but the restaurant layout is fantastic, it also being on the Docks adds a picturesque scenery which complements the whole experience. This would be a good recommendation say you were taking someone on a date.

6.0 Travel to the Merseyside

Travel is an important part of your journey to Liverpool and it is one thing that you should think about in advance. Depending on where you live will have an impact on how you can get there. The main trains stations that offer direct services to Liverpool are Crewe station, Manchester Piccadilly, London Euston and others. It may be worth checking with Network rail to see how much it would cost you to get the train. Driving can be pretty straightforward, taking the M6 north or south depending on where you are driving from, then the M56, M62, M58 or the M53 into Liverpool.

6.0 Conclusion

Although there is a lot more to discuss about this brilliant city, I feel like I would be spending hours. I would recommend that you do check back on these blogs in time since as of now I will start trying to adapt these blogs to make them continuously better. Liverpool is a city that you must visit more than once as there is still much to be discovered, even I still have much to learn and discover about this city. In my eyes Liverpool will always have a high rating on the YAPVibe scale, the rating I would give it is an 8.5 out of 10. No doubt that in the future that will become a 10, if you have not had the pleasure of visiting then I recommend going where ever you are in the UK.

Thank you all for reading! As I said last week all photo's can be found here when they are uploaded:
