Hello everyone and welcome back! We are back on Wednesdays again finally, I am also going to try and squeeze a blog out on Friday as well if I can. So last week I was back in good ol Liverpool with my girlfriend and as always it never really fails to disappoint. Although there was some distraught during the trip which I will touch on later, anyhow lets just jump straight into it.
2.0 The museum of Liverpool
I've always wondered what that big building was next to Albert Docks, low and behold I am as blind as a bat it says museum on it. Since we were stumped for things to do and we had already been to Primark and TK Maxx (what more could you need), the excitement of buying a bath towel had us all riled up and ready for more. So we went to the museum which was free by the way so even better and I must say it beats Hanley museum in Stoke by a mile. Such a fascinating place with plenty of things to learn about like e.g. the Liverpool blitz, the evolution of the human society, WW1 and plenty more. It was a lot to take in really, the only weird part of it was that there was no real structure, like you went from learning about the artillery used in the war to the start of homosapiens. Perhaps it was just me going round the wrong way, but I definitely recommend if you have not been to check it out.
2.1 Almost Famous
In case this does not get covered in future food YAPS I feel it is important that I share this food experience with you. Although I can't exactly give you my burger I can definitely describe how it tasted, now imagine succulent beef patties coated with mature cheese, tender slow cooked pork and to top it off some Smokey BBQ sauce, and lets not forget a shit load of grease. Ok the last part makes it sound disgusting but obviously there's going to be quite a bit of grease, I also can't forget my bacon loaded fries with cheese. It probably clogged by arteries and bumped up my cholesterol but my god it was so good. I think the burger I had was called the triple NOM 2.0, another nice little thing they added was a scratch card which gave you a free item of the menu. All and all the food was good and was priced as you would expect, with each of us paying £25 each for a burger, fries and an alcoholic beverage.
2.2 NQ 64
After double checking my blood pressure we then set of for what would be our boozy night out, starting at spoons with a couple of pre drinks. We then went to NQ 64, now I have been to NQ before in Manchester and for me although I love the concept I feel it is so expensive for what it is. But this NQ had Guitar Hero, and my god it brought back so many memories, although it was 4 tokens per go which equals to £7 for 3 goes, it was worth it. As for the other games, we played Mario Kart double dash which was one of my favourites as a child and Crash tag team racing. Drinks were a little expensive but other than that it was a lot of fun.
2.3 Ghetto Golf
Now for the main event, so after we had rocked ourselves out at NQ, we then made our way to Ghetto Golf, which is outside of the town centre. On first glance it looked quite rough and we were very fortunate that the bouncers aloud us in since Laura had no ID on her. But inside looked very bouji, since we had student discount we got a free cocktail with our game which only came to £14 each. I had the Ghetto punch which was a mix of rum and passion fruit juice and Laura had the golfers Paradise (I can't remember what was in it). We were given a buzzer and told to wait till it flashed, it was quite busy for a Wednesday night, but as we got on to the golf course I could see why. There were 18 holes and each hole had some form of aesthetic, for example one was like the inside of a plane, another one was a bowling alley and I can't forget the one that looked like the Jeremy Kyle show. It was kinda brilliant to be honest, even if I did get absolutely thrashed.
2.4 The Printworks Hotel
So if you remember at the start of this YAP I mentioned that we were a bit distraught, well this had a lot to do with the Hotel. As we arrived we were told that we had one of the basement rooms which was fine because we did not pay much, the room was very small but again this was not really an issue. The problem arised when I noticed that the shower had not been cleaned and was full of gunk, this was not acceptable and we did file a complaint with the hotel receptionist who politely upgraded us to a better room on the top floor. Although we got an upgrade we were then messed about again as that room then needed to be cleaned, so we had to sit there for half an hour and wait. Fortunately the room we were upgraded to was clean and a lot bigger, but we were left quite frustrated, but to be fair to the staff although really they should be checking the rooms they were pretty prompt with ensuring we got a better room. One of the main benefits of the hotel was that it was close to a train station.
3.0 Conclusion
This brings us to an end, one thing I will say is if you are going to Liverpool or planning soon please be mindful of the trains at the moment, as we had to wait an hour and a half at the station since so many trains were being cancelled. So this trip for me was definitely one of the better ones, I think Ghetto Golf was brilliant and me and Laura have both agreed it is better than junkyard. NQ 64 in Liverpool is pretty good, if you see us in there we will be in back still playing Guitar Hero. The museum was a great way to pass the time and learn a bit more history about Liverpool and as I said earlier the excitement of the trip was getting the Bath towel from TK Maxx and the Toilet brush from Wilko's. With all this plus the amazing food at almost famous it gets a solid 8 on the vibe scale, if the hotel did not let us down it would have been a 9.
