Top 5 rides at Alton Towers! Rollercoaster YAP.

1.0 Introduction

Welcome back to another YAPtastic week as I travel back to the motherland of Stoke-on-Trent. Now one of the best parts of Stoke that most people will know about is the theme park that is located deep in the countryside of Alton. Last weekend it was yours truly's birthday and as part of the weekend celebration, I decided to go Alton Towers with my partner. So I thought what better way to do a blog than to give my top 5 favourite rides at Alton Towers.

1.1 Background

So just a bit of background info that I should probably start off with, I am terrified of rollercoasters or was terrified of rollercoasters. The last time I went to Alton Towers I was about 12 and I was not very fond of going on the big rides, hence I never really went since. So you could imagine my surprise when I realised that I needed to face my fears and go on all the big rides or my £20 ticket would be wasted.

2.0 5: Galactica (Air)

This was the first big ride I went on hence why it kind of has to be on the list, but I did enjoy this ride simply because it was just that bit different. Before you set off you turn horizontally (if that makes sense), as if your in like a spaceship, anyway since it was the first proper ride that I had been on it was most definitely exhilarating. If anything it gave me the adrenaline to want to keep going.

2.1 4: The Smiler

Now how can the Smiler be 4th on the list, isn't that the ride with 14 loops. I know it's crazy that this doesn't get number one but my personal experience on the Smiler was painful. The ride itself was good and I enjoyed it but it was so uncomfortable and painful that I ended up coming off hurting all over. I am convinced that my harness wasn't properly down because I was being thrown about like clothes in a washing machine.

2.2 3: Wicker man

I did not really have any expectations for this ride really, I completely forgot that it existed but I won't now. The Wicker man for me put in a very strong performance, the whole aspect of it with the music and the little video at the start was a nice touch. The ride itself was pretty surreal and me and my partner found ourselves really enjoying it. I would definitely recommend this one.

2.3 2: Oblivion

Don't look down are the famous last words of the video that was probably made about 20 years ago, but don't listen to him because in my opinion if you don't look down while riding to Oblivion you will miss out on the thrill of flying down the fastest rollercoaster at Alton Towers. Although the ride lasts only a minute I feel like the sheer thrill factor lasted an hour, especially when you stop at the right edge of the drop. You can almost feel the fear inside you crawling up your throat, if your scared of heights then you might want to think twice before riding this one.

2.4 1: Rita

An unusual favourite but a favourite none the less, Rita for me was probably one of the most thrilling rides I think I have ever been on. Going up to 60 in 2.4 seconds Rita is probably the most frightening and thrilling rides I think I have ever been on not that I have been, on a lot but put it this way it was that quick I could feel my face rippling. This is why for me it has to be my number one.

3.0 Conclusion

So that is the end to my Alton Towers top 5, I'm working on trying to make these YAPs as easy to read as possible which is why I have started to make them a bit shorter. In general my trip to Alton Towers was as Borat would say a great success! Not only did I conquer my fear of rollercoasters but I had a genuinely fun time at half of the price (because I am a student). I would give Alton Towers a 9 on the vibe scale, although it can be a little pricey it was a truly enjoyable day out for me and my partner. We are planning to go again in the near future!

Thank you for reading this YAP, due to not really having my phone out on this trip I did not really get many photos. But any that I did get will be uploaded to the photos page as normal.
