Catching the lights at Blackpool YAP

1.0 Introduction

I am back! Just half way through my first week at uni and wow feels weird. It's been such a long summer but before I started back I had one more cheeky trip which although was short, was packed with a bit of entertainment. So I hope your all strapped in for the Blackpool YAP.

1.1 Background

So to celebrate my partners amazing achievement of graduating from uni, we decided to have an evening out in Blackpool to catch the Illuminations. Now I am not the biggest fan of Blackpool, personally I think it is lets just say not clean, however I had not been there for a good 10 years so my fingers were crossed for what would be an optimistic trip.

2.0 The Fall of the evening sun

We arrived in Blackpool around 4 o clock and jumped at the chance of getting a good old frappe from Costa. To my surprise it seemed like Blackpool had been done up a bit since my last visit as the streets seemed pretty clean. As we drank our Frappes we sat by the front, fortunately the tide was still out but the view was scenic. I could have sat there for hours, even though it was cloudy it was just nice to sit there and watch as it went down.

2.1 Gimme the 2Ps

As I said in the Great Yarmouth YAP which if you have not seen there will be a link at the end so you can check that out. 2p machines are a great way to pend a little amount of money and get nothing but hours of entertainment. The shear joy and hate of winning or losing is what keeps the arcade economy flowing and its amazing to see how well it still does. Even though they have made it more difficult to get the items you want, persistence is key. On one of the machines we were absolutely drilling the 2ps in to get a 50 pence coin, after spending an entire pound we not only got the 50 pence but had also made a profit of 12p. But all jokes aside it is a great way to have fun and kill time if you don't want to spend a lot.

2.2 The Blackpool Illuminations

The main event for the evening was the Blackpool Illuminations which if you have not seen are the big fancy lights they put up along the main strip. Now previous times that I had visited the best part of the trip was the lights so I was pretty pumped to see them after not seeing them for a while. Low and behold the lights were pretty underwhelming, maybe they looked better when I was younger but they just didn't seem very impressive. The strip started with these rainbow lights which weren't great and then they had a few which were quite cool that moved. But some of them were legit the same ones that I saw about 10 years ago and they look pretty dated. I think in my opinion the best lights without sounding like a child were the Nickelodeon lights which featured the characters from SpongeBob. But all in all they were very average, however I would not discourage you from going if you have little kids since it would definitely be up there alley.

3.0 Conclusion

It was a short YAP I know, as I said previously apologies for the lack of content. But with University starting and work it has been difficult to balance this with everything else. As I also said in the last YAP please be aware that if I do not upload for a while it does not mean that the gig is up. Anyway, Blackpool for me was a nice little trip, and I have got to say it has cleaned up a lot since I last visited there. I am looking forward to my next visit there where I potentially may check out the pleasure beach. But till then Blackpool gets a vibe rating of 7, although the lights were average the entertainment and the picturesque sunset made it a great evening trip.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed this YAP :)
