1.0 Introduction
So I'm back to reality in sunny England after my trip away to the states, can't say I'm too upset though, it's nice to not be burning. So this week we will be looking at one of the towns in the peak district, if you have not been to Buxton then this YAP will hopefully give you a reason to go and visit this hidden gem. I went there at the weekend and although a lot has changed since my last visit, it is still the beautiful, quaint town that I remember. So here's why you should visit.
2.0 A true adventure
If you have ever had the pleasure of driving to Buxton then you will know what to expect, if not then you are in for a surprise. Due to being in the middle of hills and countryside, driving to Buxton can be a pleasant and quiet drive with some breathtaking scenery. But wait, before you set off you may want to have a quick stopover on the way. Depending on where you are traveling from you may want to check in for a quick ice cream at Blaze farm, of course, the Ice cream has been YAPVibe approved by the experts behind the scenes and I can vouch that its in good competition with Snugberrys. Anyway as I was saying, this is just the start of what you can do and we aren't even in Buxton yet, so strap in because we have got quite the day ahead. Two of the pictures I will show you are just a taste of what the scenery is like (Bare in mind it was very foggy).
2.1 What to do?
Well although it may seem like too small a town to spend the day, I can assure you that there is plenty to do while you are there. Whether you want to take a trip to the Cavendish arcade to look at the old baths and browse around the shops, or maybe you fancy having a look at some of the antique shops that sell old trinkets and ends. Maybe you are a big fan of charity shops since there is an abundance of them around the town centre of Buxton. But perhaps you are not really bothered about charity shops (you horrible human being) and you want to just take in this amazing town with a brisk walk, well the park is a 2 minute walk from the town centre and although it is small, it offers a nice relaxing feel. Once you have finished your stroll you may want to visit the market which is attached to the infamous Buxton Opera house, I described it as an indoor car boot sale where people just sell crap, yet then I realised that is what a market is anyway. Although they had a nice alcohol section where they sold gin and whiskey which looked pretty bouji.
2.2 A place of history
Buxton is full of history, as I found out quite recently. Although I knew something went on in this unique town I wasn't quite sure how it all came together. Well I don't really want to spoil anything for anyone but I will show you a few pictures that may set a scene to what the town is famous for, a hint would be that the town has a water bottle named after it. Ok another hint would be that one of the shopping centres as I stated earlier was originally a bath house. As I'm sure you didn't need my silly hints to guess Buxton is famous for kebabs. But in all seriousness Buxton has an amazing visitor experience where you can learn about the past history of why the water of Buxton is famous. Although do keep in mind that this is not free, if you are not willing to pay the £14 like us to have the experience, then you can always check out the visitors centre that offers a free exhibition. Which gave us plenty of information if anything. It is also worthy to note that the Buxton museum and art gallery is free of charge to enter, although I did not go when I visited I have heard that it also shares some valuable information about Buxton's history.
3.0 Conclusion
As your journey comes to an end it may be worth one last moment to take in the beauty of this tucked away town, although I did not spend very long there it was definitely an enjoyable day out for me. Do keep in mind though that depending on what day and when you go could also depend on how difficult parking may be. Do watch out for if any events are on as the city can get quite busy especially in the summer, but other than that there is plenty of car parks in and outside of the centre. So, the important question as to if Buxton hits the vibe, well I'm pretty sure from the first blog you can tell where these things go. Not much doesn't really hit it, but it always depends on what your intentions are. In this case for me I got what I went for so it gets a solid 7.8, as I was pretty impressed with the extra bit of history I learned. I would recommend this trip to people if they live not too far away or are driving that way.
