While I was thinking of YAPs to write it reminded me of the story of an impossibly handsome man and his 4 friends who went on a trip to Magaluf. It's been quite some time since the last food Friday and I thought well I should start actually doing what I have advertised. So todays YAP food review will take a leap back in time to when I went to Magaluf, I hope you enjoy!
1.1 The all-inclusive
It's always a benefit to go all-inclusive but as most people know Spain has been tightening there restrictions on alcoholic beverages, and due to this we could only drink free alcohol during meal times. Now I'm not sure how this works in other venues as I know at some places there is a 6 drink limit but where we stayed the people behind the bar did not really seem to care how many you went for, if anything I can't really imagine how they keep track with the amount of people there.
2.0 Sub Section San Miguel
When it came to drink choices, you were rather limited to San Miguel or wine, it was quite mediocre to be frank as I don't particularly enjoy either but hey ho. The San Miguel was on tap but was quite grim, I can imagine it will have been watered down to the point where it was barely alcohol hence the name of this section. One thing they know how to do at the resort though was sex on the beach, which was pretty lush, unfortunately we had to pay for them though. The main thing that was pushed at the resort was the use of reusable cups which was a nice touch, keeping sustainable (Although Jay hated them).
2.1 Pizza course and the fish is too fishy
Two pronoun quotes from the holiday, the Pizza course was Lewis's idea of a childhood meal because Pizza as a kid was the best. As for the other quote which was said by Robbie his explanation was that "cod is too fishy whereas a fish finger is just the right amount of fish (Robbie, Magaluf 2022)."
Bit off topic but the food in general was pretty good, I might have mentioned in the other YAP that they operated a buffet style service which was nice and they had quite the variety of food. Mainly English food so like sausages, beans, chips that sort of stuff, but they also did some Asian food that was really nice and a bit of Italian food like I said before Pizzas. The quality of the food was average but there was an abundance of it and as I said a nice variety from Breakfast, dinner and tea or Breakfast, lunch and dinner if you prefer. My favourite part of each daytime meal as my friends will know was the desserts, although they were a rather strange selection at times I could have quite easily ate everything, I think I had Ice cream near enough everyday. We ate at the resort everyday because that's what we paid for so we did not really go out out for food. Although one thing I will say while I have been abroad this year is that everywhere else seems to have a better McDonalds than we do, so much more selection and better quality food plus you can actually get a pint as well.
2.2 Half a pint of whiskey please
As I may have said in the previous YAP when we went on nights out the people behind the bar were more than lenient on the amount of alcohol they put in. Asking for a drink like a vodka and coke was like asking for a quadruple in the UK as they really did not seem to fussed with how much went they put in. If anything it was great that they did, normally they would also give you your own bottle of mixer so you decide how much you want to put in which again was nice but with there measurements normally there was no need for a mixer. As for pre drinks cocktails were the thing to go to, it seemed like everywhere knew how to make a good sex on the beach so that was the main drink of choice and they were quite cheap as well about £6 each at most places. Although they did a cider over there called gaymers I think and it was actually really nice, it was about £3 a pint.
3.0 Conclusion
A nice short YAP with a couple quotes from the lads, although we did not really go into the gritty details, I will say that the food over there was alright it was nothing special but it was what you would expect for a place that is half British. As for the drinks they were really good, Spain has more alcohol than over here which made each of the several cocktails I had over there pretty sweet. As for the resort they were quite efficient went it came to meal times with plenty of variety for everybody, and also I forgot to mention a nice variety of drinks including my favourite Fanta Lemon. It was a Par effort by Spain, maybe Barcelona could make it a birdie but it is yet to be seen, I would give the food a solid 6 and the drinks an 8.
